- Abstract
Continuous intraperitoneal insulin infusion (CIPII) with implantable pump has been employed for almost 30 years as an alternative route for insulin delivery when SC insulin therapy has failed [[1]]. To avoid new skin reactions and areas of lipoatrophy, the patient changed the insulin infusion site very frequently, but this was not sufficient to achieve a good diabetes management. Throughout the 4 years of insulin pump therapy, it was not possible to achieve a good blood glucose control because of SC site issues and indurations in the sites surrounding insulin injection. 1 Area of lipoatrophy on arm induced by subcutaneous insulin injection (a) and skin reactions at different CSII infusion set sites (b, c).
