- Abstract
The article focuses on the family planning services to HIV-positive women. It notes that HIV-positive women with no access to family health planning services are at risk of adverse outcomes of pregnancy including low birth weight, preterm birth, and infant mortality. It discusses several approaches to increase access to family planning services such as integration of family planning and HIV services and enhancing the existing family planning programs. It mentions the International Conference of Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994 which aimed to have a holistic approach to sexual and reproductive health. It cites several achievements of the ICPD approach such as the increased funding for HIV/AIDS proposals and the presence of family planning.
