- Abstract
Mortality from femur fracture is a global public health challenge. Objective: to describe the profile of deaths due to femoral fractures in the northern region of Brazil in the years 2020 to 2023. Method: this is an ecological, descriptive, time series study obtained from secondary data from the Information System of the Unified Health System Health - DATASUS. Results: in the period analyzed, 508 deaths occurred in the North Region. The majority of occurrences were recorded in Pará (48%), followed by Amazonas (17%) and Rondônia (12%). The majority of deaths occur in people aged 80 or over (51.8%) and among people classified as mixed race (71%). Mortality due to femoral fractures was more prevalent among women (54.96%). Conclusion: femoral fractures represent a major public health problem, as they predispose to physical limitations, psychological damage and even death, especially in older patients. In this sense, it is essential to act on risk factors in order to prevent falls and, consequently, fractures and lethality.
