- Abstract
Objective: To show the relationship between hormonal changes that develop endometriosis, showing its causes, diagnosis and treatment. There is an unestablished prevalence that indicates 10% of women, being more frequent between the ages of 25 and 35 years. Methods: Refers to a bibliographical review on the relationship between hormonal changes and the development of endometriosis in the Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar online journal databases. The descriptives "Endom etriosis", "hormones", "diagnosis", "mechanisms" were used. Results/Discussion: It was found that the hormone that is most related to the disease is estrogen, it increases throughout the woman's menstrual cycle, most marked in the reproduction phase where it is called estradiol, the finding of a persistent proliferative activity in secretory and menstrual phases could be explained by the failure in the expression of the progesterone receptor that would suppress such proliferation. Conclusion: The most effective treatment for women with moderate and profound endometriosis is through surgery to remove ectopic endometrial tissue and endometriomas. In other cases, medications and methods of interrupting the menstrual cycle are used.
