- Abstract
Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, or Broken Heart Syndrome, is a rare left ventricular dysfunction that affects the heart muscle, mainly caused by emotional or physical stress. The predominance is given in women in the postmenopausal period, however, fertile women can also be affected by this pathology. This article is an integrative literature review and aims to analyze the differences in the incidence of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in postmenopausal and fertile women. The searches were performed, until May 2022, in two databases: PubMed and VHL, using the following descriptors: "takotsubo cardiomyopathy", "postmenopause" and "fertility". Therefore, articles of different experimental designs were selected, which showed the factors that make the incidence during post-menopause frequent when compared to women in fertile periods, since, despite having limited studies on the subject, they present some associated risk factors. In this way, it is possible to conclude that the sexual hormonal imbalance and the presence of historical psychiatric disorders are shown as some of the conditions for the incidence of the pathology, respectively, in post-menopausal women and fertile women, which were addressed throughout the study. present review.
