Clinical algorithms in labour and childbirth care: Prospects and challenges.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the need for improved intrapartum care to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality rates, particularly in low-resource settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) has commissioned a supplement that presents evidence-based algorithms for the management of normal and abnormal labor and childbirth. These algorithms provide step-by-step guidance for healthcare providers, using a systematic approach to decision-making and reducing variation in practice. While algorithms can be helpful tools, they should always be used in conjunction with a holistic approach that considers the woman's individual needs and preferences. Further research is needed to evaluate the impact of these algorithms on guideline adherence and patient outcomes.
