- Title
Tongue Position as a Source of Error in Panoramic Radiography.
- Authors
Rottke, Bernhard
- Abstract
The article presents information on the errors caused due to the position of tongue in panoramic radiography. It is stated that panorama radiographs of the anterior region of the oral cavity can be difficult to evaluate due to the difference in radiopacity of the thin anterior segments and the relatively thicker posterior segments. It is stated that the problems can be partially reduced if the patient is asked to position the tongue by contacting the palatal soft tissue and the oral surface of the incisor teeth. This results in a uniform depiction of the maxillary structures. It is mentioned that image is improved because some of the X-rays are absorbed by the tongue.
