- Abstract
For serum total cholesterol concentrations within a range of 200-300 gm/dl it is necessary not only to determine HDL-cholesterol, but also to calculate LDL-cholesterol according to Friedewald. The results from 270 patients show many cases in which - in spite of a close total correlation between total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol - both parameters fall into different ranges of diagnostic significance (normal/suspicious/pathological). The methodical range of error of the analytical and calculating procedures are critically discussed and evaluated.
