- Abstract
This request was posed by one of architect Peter Eisenman's clients, as he waved a copy of I GA Document i (the architect's I Vogue i ) to emphasize his objective. Arantes presents how haute architects and their exaggerated designs have flourished, and exacerbated, neoliberal economics, class divisions, and unevenly developed cities, against the backdrop of historical and contemporary alternatives, many linked to the production of incremental, social housing. It is important to note that Arantes' I The Rent of Form i references a period of time when architects strove to escape from modernism, and specifically its abysmal response to the social changes most apparent in cities.
