- Abstract
The article presents a study on contraceptive behavior of Norwegian adolescents. The data was derived from a population-based survey of 3000 Norwegian adolescents aged 17, 18 and 19 years. The result yielded a response rate of 60.9%. Approximately 40% reported having used the pill. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that among both girls and boys non-use of contraception increased with alcohol consumption prior to intercourse. Approximately one in four used a condom on the most recent occasion, whereas approximately four out of 10 did not use any contraception. The study concludes that a large proportion of adolescents involve in high-risk practices resulting in unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. So, it is required to develop health promotion activities to guide adolescents to use contraception.
