- Abstract
The article presents information on the findings of some reports from the National Research Council (NRC) on the growth rate of biomedical postdoctoral appointments in the U.S. The reports state that nearly one-third of biomedical postdoctoral trainees hold on to their appointments for as long as three years or more due to lack of suitable permanent employment. The reports state that the government's support of biomedical research training should diminish gradually. The reports urge that predoctoral awards should be made to institutions in the form of traineeships.
