- Title
Intraspecific variation in calories/g of meadow spittlebugs (philaenus spu- marius L.).
- Authors
Wiegert, Richard G.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study that analyzes intraspecific variation in calories/gram in meadow spittlebugs. Due to the small size of spittlebugs, especially the eggs and early instars, a microbomb calorimeter was needed that could provide accurate determinations of the heat content of samples weighing 10 mg or less. The study also involved the killing of insects and drying them at 60 degree celsius in a vacuum oven. After this, samples were burned on small tared platinum foil pans, and pans were then dried at 100 degree celsius, and reweighed.
