- Abstract
The article presents a study investigating the predictive value of the duration of QRS electrocardiogram wave complexes in hospitalized patients for heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). The design and setting of the retrospective analysis of the research known as the Efficacy of Vasopressin Antagonism in Heart Failure Outcome Study With Tolvaptan (EVERST) is described. The outcomes measured included the all-cause mortality and a composite of cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure. Researchers concluded that prolonged QRS duration at presentation in patients with reduced LVEF who are hospitalized for heart failure is a strong independent predictor of postdischarge morbidity and mortality.
