- Abstract
This article reports on a clinical trial of novel tetravalent CRM197 meningococcal glycoconjugate (MenACWY) vaccine in infants. Estimates put the number of invasive meningococcal disease cases in the U.S. at about 1400 a year. Of these, 10 percent to 14 percent will die and the highest rate is among infants under the age of 1-year-old for whom there is no approved drug prevention. The trials were performed in England and Canada on children aged two months. The effectiveness of the vaccine was measured by titer after a primary course of the vaccine and a 12-month booster. The study found that MenACWY was well tolerated by the children and offered good immunization against the disease.
