- Title
CLOSING THE GAP.
- Abstract
The article discusses the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge across California's San Francisco Bay during the Great Depression. The author explains San Francisco, California's rapid population growth in the early-20th century, which largely influenced the need for the bridge. It is also argued that construction of the bridge, part of the state's public works program, provided jobs to the unemployed during the Depression.
