- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the 10 myths about the measurements of plasma cortisol in critically ill patients. Among the fallacies are total cortisol assays are interchangeable, a lower plasma total cortisol value is linked to a worse outcome, and a high increment on the cosyntropin test rules out adrenal insufficiency. Also cited are such topics as corticosteroid binding globulin (CBG), hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA), and relative adrenal insufficiency (RAI).
