- Title
Understanding hypovolaemia.
- Authors
Perner, Anders; Backer, Daniel
- Abstract
The article offers information on hypovoleamia which is defined as blood volume decrease resulting from loss of blood, plasma and/or plasma water. It explains the complexity of the haemodynamic impact of fluid loss. It discusses the determination of the circulatory effects of fluid resuscitation through the interaction of venous return and cardiac function. It describes the effects of compensated, uncompensated and relative hypovolaemia on unstressed and stressed volumes and cardiac output.
