- Abstract
The article discusses a study which explored the association of bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7) gene polymorphisms with the inverse relationship between vascular calcification and bone mineral density (BMD). Four single nucleotide polymorphisms were tested with vascular calcification measured using computerized tomography (CT), while BMD was measured using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The study supports a previous work suggesting that BMP7 affects skeletal and vascular mineralization.
