- Abstract
Tungsten residue is a vital scandium-containing resource. This paper presents techniques to extract scandium from high-silicon scandium-rich tungsten residue by sulfuric acid leaching. Tungsten residue is mainly composed of iron and manganese oxide (MnO, Mn3O4, Fe2O3), silicate mineral (SiO2, MgSiO3), sodium aluminosilicate (Na2O·Al2O3·3SiO2), and Sc2O3. The silica content of the residue can be > 40 wt.%. The research shows that the addition of a regulator can effectively increase the leaching ratio of the scandium and improve the filtration performance of the leaching residue. The optimum conditions for scandium leaching were sulfuric acid with a concentration of 2 mol/L, regulator dosage of 1 g, reaction time of 2 h, and reaction temperature of 80°C. Under the optimum conditions, 100% Fe, 41.23% Al, 1.53% Si, and 82.42% Sc were leached. Compared with conventional sulfuric acid leaching, the leaching ratio of scandium was increased by about 23%.
