- Abstract
We present a first approach to the virtualization of animal-assisted interventions (IAA) in Latin America, which came up as an emergency resource to overcome the health crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a survey carried out in two virtual meetings with AAI professionals, it appears that the virtualization experiences occurred mainly under the format of individual teleconsultations from private psychotherapy, psychopedagogy and occupational therapy assisted with dogs offices. Interventions in health and education centres were less frequent, due to logistical and institutional barriers. The participants were favourably surprised with the results of virtual IAAs, which they had started with some scepticism. The virtual format could remain in force as a complementary strategy to guarantee access to certain populations or to avoid situations that prevent the face-to-face format.
