Crusade and Conversion: Islam as Schism in Pius II and Nicholas of Cusa.
- Authors
Moudarres, Andrea
- Abstract
A critique is presented of the essays "Epistle to Mahomet II" by 15th century Pope Pius II and "Cribatio Alkorani" by philosopher Nicholas of Cusa, which refer to the Turkish conquest of Constantinople, humanist portrayals of Turks and Muslims, and debates over the Christian crusades and conversion from Islam. Heresy versus schism, missionary versus military response to Islam, and religious philosophers such as Riccoldo di Montecroce are discussed.
