- Abstract
The article titled "Characterization and outcomes of patients with anticoagulated stroke diagnoses in a fourth-level center" presents a descriptive study on patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke who received anticoagulant treatment in a fourth-level center. A total of 2,335 medical records were analyzed, and 221 patients over 18 years old were included. The results showed that the prevalence of ischemic stroke was 9.5%, mainly in men around 65 years old. Despite good adherence to medical prescription, recurrence was 7.2%. The most important medical history included hypertension, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus. Warfarin was the anticoagulant of choice. It is concluded that anticoagulation and follow-up in stroke patients are of great importance to reduce recurrence and improve quality of life.
