- Authors
Brown, Victoria; Rubin, Nancy
- Abstract
Turnitin has become a popular service for identifying plagiarism. With the increased usage of the program, several concerns have been voiced about the ethical use of Turnitin in the classroom. Faculty members participated in a survey that contained a combination of Likert scale and open-ended questions. The Likert questions indicated the when and how Turnitin was used. The open-ended questions provided the faculty members an opportunity to express how ethical about plagiarism detection service concerns impacted their classroom practices. Faculty that used Turnitin believed the service assisted in maintaining the academic integrity of the degrees issued by the institution. Other faculty were concerned about the inference of guilty the service implies about student actions.
