- Abstract
Five lines of four mungbean genotypes were analyzed for polymorphism using a total of five Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) and two Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) markers. Unique alleles differentiating the genotypes could be identified. Amplification of genomic DNA of most popular four Indian mungbean genotypes with these ISSR and SSR primers yielded 162 fragments that could be scored, of which 56 were polymorphic, with an average of 8.0 polymorphic fragments per primer. Number of amplified bands with ISSR and SSR primers ranged from 7 to 37. Percentage polymorphism ranged from 28.56 (UBC 836) to 57.14 (SSR 2). Polymorphic Information Content ranged from 0.584 (SSR 2) to 0.907 (UBC 809). The results indicated that both of the markers ISSR and SSR individually can be effectively used in determination of genetic relationship among Vigna species. It could be concluded that, the information of genetic similarities and diversity among Vigna genotypes can easily be identified using molecular techniques.
