The article discusses the launch of the National Institutes of Health Precision Medicine Initiative® (PMI) by U.S. President Barack Obama aimed to individualized or personalized medicine through advances in science and technology such as genetics and genomics sequencing. It explores on the ethical practices and major challenges in genetics and genomics research. Also mentioned is the effect of genetics and genomics in providing health literacy to patients in the U.S.
