- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of calendrical astronomy systems in Chinese dynasties and the astronomical reform that resulted in the book ''Yuzhi lixiang kaocheng houbian.'' The book, the result of reform that took place between 1730 and 1742, was largely compiled by the German Jesuit missionary Ignaz Kögler and Portuguese priest André Pereira. According to the author, it contained substantial European knowledge of astronomy, including Isaac Newton's theory of the motion of the moon, Johannes Kepler's first two laws of planetary motion and the geometric solutions pertaining to Kepler's laws.
