- Abstract
The CoFeO oxidic system was synthesized by a modified redox reaction between cobalt nitrate (II), iron nitrate (III) and 1,4-butanediol using different Fe/Co ratios. The synthesized precursors were subjected to advanced thermal treatment and studied by thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transformed infrared spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that by the thermal decomposition of the carboxylate precursors, cobalt ferrite nanocrystallites were obtained. In the samples with Fe excess, beside cobalt ferrite, iron oxides were also formed, while in samples with Co excess, cobalt oxides occur as secondary phase. The data obtained from transmission electron microscopy images, X-ray diffractograms and crystallite size evaluation from powder diffraction pattern and Scherrer equation indicated the synthesis of nanomaterials with particle size below 100 nm.
