- Abstract
The article presents a study which evaluated the epidemiologic coincidence of diverticulitis disease and advanced colonic neoplasia. All study patients were recruited from the Surgical Department of the Rhenish-Westfalian Technical University Aachem. Patients were subdivided into the cancer group and the diverticulitis group. Patients in the study with a history of colonic cancer had a lower prevalence of diverticulitis as compared with other epidemiologic data. In conclusion, the results suggest that patients with advanced colonic neoplasias and diverticulitis diseases could be derived from distinctive groups.
