- Abstract
The conscious emission or not of gestures, mood indicators, transforms gestural messages into an effective language that has great influence in the perception of coherence of discourse. Gesture seems to participate in the planning of reason; therefore its semantic value. This study is based on the tridimensional representation of gesture, expressed by Santi (2001), where emotion, sensibility and symbolism, together with motricity, are the most important elements in gestural interaction; though not the only ones. Non-verbal communication was observed in the intercultural study, "U'wa community and Spanish speakers". Here Byron's theory of basic channels of communication, was taken into account. This allowed us to verify that the index of gestural possibilities were different, given the sociocultural specificity of each group. Another aspect studied was the behavior of posture and its projection within proxemic spaces.
