- Title
Chromosome segment duplications in Neurospora crassa: barren crosses beget fertile science.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article focuses on the Neurospora chromosome segment duplications (Dps) studies performed since the publication of D. D. Perkins' magnum opus in 1997. It summarizes the seminal work of Perkins on chromosome rearrangements, specifically the identification of insertional and quasiterminal translocations. In addition, it describes the meiotic silencing by unpaired DNA, the genome defense process that renders Dp-heterozygous crosses barren.
