- Authors
Del Sorbo, Lorenzo; Ferguson, Niall D.
- Abstract
The author comments on a randomized trial published within the issue which investigated whether a technique-oxygen delivered via high-flow nasal cannulae (HFNC) was inferior to noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in preventing or treating postoperative acute respiratory failure. Topics covered include the physiological effects of HFNC, issues with regards to the design of the noninferiority trial and problems on the use of treatment failure as the primary outcome.
