- Title
LES INJUSTICES RÉVOLTANTES: GUSTAVE DE BEAUMONT AND THE PRE-HISTORY OF CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.
- Authors
WELCH, Cheryl B.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the writings of French magistrate Gustave de Beaumont concerning inequality and their relationship to modern studies of crimes against humanity. According to the author, Beaumont frequently commented on a model of injustice which was shocking to Christian sensibilities, reified by law, and entrenched by means of its polarizing effects on society. Particular focus is given to his writings on slavery in the U.S. and the French colonization of Algeria.
