- Abstract
This document is a reply to a comment on a systematic review published in the journal Intensive Care Medicine. The authors of the review address concerns raised by Kotani et al. regarding the heterogeneity observed in their meta-analyses, particularly in relation to mortality. The authors acknowledge the need for caution in interpreting the results and highlight the potential impact of heterogeneity on the findings. They discuss three factors contributing to the observed heterogeneity, including the lack of sufficient studies per patient population for subgroup analysis, the variation in definitions of hypotension, and the inclusion of both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies. The authors argue that including observational studies provides valuable insight into the association of true hypotension exposure with patient outcomes. The document concludes with the authors' contributions and declarations of conflicts of interest.
