- Abstract
Introduction: Racism involves segregating an individual or group based on their ethnic origin and perpetuating forms of exclusion, which is considered structural as it achieves all sectors of society. The black population faces barriers related to health as a consequence of racism, which has significant impacts on the food and nutrition of the population. Objective: To describe the factors that compose food racism in Brazil and its impact on black population's health. Methods: This is a literature review study, using bibliographic searches in Scielo, Bireme, and Periódico Capes databases from 2012 to 2022 to identify published studies on the topic. Results and Discussion: 20 studies meeting the eligibility criteria were selected. It was evident that being black in Brazil is directly linked to declines in access to essential services such as healthcare, education, income, and the recognition of ancestral knowledge, which affects the ability of the black population to live with dignity. Food insecurity data reflect how the black population is more affected by this issue. In conclusion, it is necessary to improve public policy programs that genuinely address access to basic services for this population that aim an ideal quality of life that everyone deserves.
