- Abstract
Dams are generally erected on deep valleys through the river course and they collect rain water and river water then make out an artificial lake. Dams prevent the floods which may occur on the other hand they are used to produce hydroelectric energy to supply the water needs of cities and agricultural areas. Therefore, in this study Gokcekaya Dam built on the Sakarya River was investigated for the impact of it on the Sakarya River flow regime. In this study, flow changing volume was investigated before starting to work and after respectively in the Gokcekaya Dam. Firstly, flow volume of Dogancay Station located on down Sakarya River was shown in graphs before and after operation. Then Trend Analysis Method was applied to show change in the flow volume. According to analysis, after the Gokcekaya Dam erected, the changing of peak flow volume decreased in raining season and minimum flow changing volume increased in the dry season. In the result of trend analysis, before dam erected, while flow volume data observed displayed growing trend, after the dam erected the trend is not observed. Thus flow regime of Sakarya River is shown a regular flow after Gokcekaya dam was erected.
