- Abstract
The article focuses on the relationship between diet and dental caries in the South African Bantu. The South African Bantu were free from dental caries while living in primitive kraal conditions, but as they adopted the European lifestyle they became more susceptible to tooth decay. Eating sugar and machine ground mealie meal were two factors.
