- Authors
Kennedy, Sheila Suess
- Abstract
The article discusses the issues related to the third party government or government by proxy in the context of the United States. The term "government by proxy" indicates to the situation where private institutions or organizations delivers services on behalf of the government agencies, but there is a fact that these organizations and institutions are chosen, directed and paid by the government for those services. This act of the government can be termed as contracting out or outsourcing. It has been noticed that little attention to the constitutional implications of government by proxy has been paid by the public administration and political theory scholars. When the government chooses the third party governance option, it should be accountable to citizens. The instrument which has been chosen by the government to provide governmental services must not alter the requirement. In this context, the article further throws light on the U.S. State action and constitutional accountability.
