- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates the possible links between hydrological science and the poem "The Hunting of the Snark," by Lewis Carroll. It states that the poem depicts the hunt for a hypothetical, unknown, and unseen monster which is a snark. It discusses the proposed prose analogue for Carroll's poem, in which a possible strategy for hunting the hydrological monster that lurks in the shadows, yet familiar to every hydrologist is described. It highlights the fundamental rules for a hydrological snark hunt and explores the various types of models that could help locate the snark.
