- Abstract
Barley yellow dwarf (BYD) is the most dangerous distributed worldwide virus disease of cereals caused by a group of several virus species transmitted by aphids in persistent manner. In the season 2014/2015 the disease occurred at high incidence in all parts of Poland except Podlasie region, causing serious yield losses, particularly in winter barley. Plant samples exhibiting the disease symptoms were analyzed using ELISA test detecting two principal causal agents: Barley yellow dwarf virus-MAV (BYDV-MAV) and Barley yellow dwarf virus-PAV (BYDV-PAV). A total of 688 samples of cereal plants were tested. The rate of the virus detection was very high (over 80%). The impact of climatic conditions on the outbreak of the disease was analyzed and discussed.
