- Abstract
Dear Editor, Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune blistering disease (AIBD) characterized by disruption of the hemidesmosome, resulting in subepidermal bullae, erosions, urticarial plaques and persistent pruritus. This suggests that the BPDAI may underestimate overall disease severity in patients with darker skin by under-rating the degree of urticaria/erythema in these patients. Similarly, black patients reported greater BPDAI pruritus scores than white patients, including itch over the past 24 h, week and total pruritus scores.
