- Abstract
The article offers an international research project and field campaign relating to the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA). It states that the AMMA aims to improve peoples' knowledge and understanding of the West African monsoon and its variability with an emphasis on daily-to-interannual time scales. It promotes the international coordination of ongoing activities, basic research, and a multiyear field campaign over West Africa and the tropical Atlantic. The research aims to achieve the following five international working groups: West African monsoon and global climate, water cycle, surface-atmosphere feedbacks, prediction of climate impacts, and high-impact weather prediction and predictability.
