- Abstract
We aimed to study the effects of menopause on microvascular dysfunction via measuring coronary flow reserve of three epicardial vessels in patients who had normal coronary arteries with typical angina and positive exercise stress test. We included 35 patients who had normal coronary arteries with positive exercise stress test and typical angina. Patients were divided into two groups according to having or not having menopause. T test and Mann Whitney-U test were used to compare mean values, Pearson test were used for correlation analyze. p values below 0.05 were accepted as significant. We could not find any difference for left anterior descending artery and left circumflex artery between patients having menopause (n= 19) and not having menopause (n=12). Mean hyperemic peak flow velocity and coronary flow reserve were found to be significantly lower for right coronary artery in menopause patients. (p=0.02 and p=0.001, respectively) Moreover, coronary flow reserve was significantly higher in patients below 50 years old (p=0.02). Correlations between mean hyperemic peak flow velocity and age delineated positive correlation for circumflex artery and negative correlation for right coronary artery (r=-0.44,p=0.01 and e r=-0.45,p=0.007, respectively). Our study demonstrated menopause may have role in microvascular dysfunction.
