- Title
Follicle stimulating hormone: facts and fallacies.
- Authors
Parker, Susan
- Abstract
The article discusses the important role of the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in the development and function of the reproductive system. It states that FSH is a dimeric hormone that shares an alpha sub-unit with other pituitary hormones like luteinizing hormone and thyroid SH. Its output is determined by negative feedbacks of estrogen and inhibins, thus making it a significant marker of ovarian output changes. However, its clear usage lies only in the diagnosis of gonadal failure.
