- Abstract
In this study, the “News Consumption Motivation and Satisfaction Scale” was developed. The scale aims to reveal the news consumption motivation and satisfaction of individuals, in particular Web 2.0 users. In addition, the psychometric properties of the “News Consumption Motivation and Satisfaction Scale” were also examined in the study. The scale consists of 27 7-point Likert-type expressions designed to measure the news consumption motivation and satisfaction of the participants within the scope of “news site-digital newspaper”, “Instagram” and “YouTube”. The scale whose theoretical basis is represented by the “uses and gratifications theory”, has a 5 factor-structure: “Reliability”, “Technical Facilities and Convenience”, “Entertainment and Relaxation”, “Active Participation”, “Rich and Optional Content”. The research included 922 Web 2.0 users. In the first stage, “Exploratory Factor Analysis” (EFA) was carried out by reaching 576 people for the construct validity of the scale. It was found that “EFA”, which was seen to have a variance of 77.23%, suggested a 5-factor structure. In the next stage, 346 people were reached, and “Confirmatory Factor Analysis” (CFA) was used. After the implementation of the “CFA”, it was found that the theoretical structure was confirmed, and the “fit indices” showed a perfect fit. “AVE” values of the five factors obtained for “convergent and discriminant validity” ranged from .65 to .71, and “CR” values ranged from .90 to .94. The “Cronbach’s Alpha” value was found to be .90 for the whole scale, and between .90 and .98 for the five subscales. At the end of the study, “the News Consumption Motivation and Satisfaction Scale” was introduced to the field, whose validity and reliability were ensured.
