- Abstract
An amputation leaves behind physical and emotional trauma. The concealment of an amputated part/digit with the help of prosthesis can shield an amputee from social stigma. Prosthesis for such an amputee must be comfortable to wear, lightweight, durable, cosmetically pleasing easy to put on and remove. Furthermore, the prosthesis must function well mechanically and require only reasonable maintenance. Ultimately, prosthetic use largely depends on the motivation of the individual, as none of the above characteristics matter if the patient will not wear the prosthesis. This paper presents a method for constructing a prosthetic finger with additional retentive measures apart from medical graded adhesive for a patient having an amputated right middle finger at the level of the intermediate phalanx which will have the potential to address the patient's psychosocial concerns and minimize the exposure of the finger loss to the public.
