- Abstract
The article presents information on the life and career of Pauline Kael, one of the most striking, and notorious film writers of last 40 years. Kael was born in Petaluma, California in 1919 and went on to study at the University of California at Berkeley, where she majored in philosophy. In the 1950s, Kael began reviewing for publications ranging from the "Massachusetts Review" and "Atlantic Monthly" to "Sight and Sound." Kael's name became synonymous with a brave new wave of American directors in the 1970s. However, she was often criticized for lack of feeling for foreign language films.
