- Title
A Solvent-soluble Fraction of the Fleece of Sheep associated with Suint.
- Authors
STEWART, R. G.
- Abstract
SUINT has been defined as the water-soluble material in greasy wool1, and recent work has shown it to be a complex mixture of salts of organic acids, polypeptide material, urea and colouring matter2-4. The woolwax fraction in the fleece is usually determined by Soxhlet extraction with the appropriate solvent, but no importance has been attached to whether the Soxhlet extraction is carried out before, or after, the removal of suint1. In addition, some workers have stated that the choice of solvents is not important, polar or non-polar solvents extracting about the same amount of material5.
