- Abstract
A letter to the editor is presented that discusses physiological myocardial hypertrophy. The response is mediated by pathways which trigger increased protein synthesis and the consequent growth in cardiomyocyte size. The letter concludes that while the role of Akt in establishing physiological hypertrophy is well known, whether it has an anti-apoptotic effect also during this condition needs further investigation.
