- Abstract
The article examines Home and Garden Television (HGTV), which was founded in 1992 by the television broadcasting executive Ken Lowe, who was then working at the EW Scripps Company. Particular focus is given to how HGTV relates to media convergence and design branding in the U.S. Additional topics discussed include the network's devotion to home improvement, how HGTV relates to consumerism and defines what is desirable to homeowners, and the diversity of families depicted on the network. The HGTV Dream Home contest is also explored.
