- Title
The Coming CRISIS in Audiology.
- Authors
Freeman, Barry A.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the anticipated shortfall in the number of audiologists as persons seeking their services will increase due to improved identification and awareness and the aging population. The author says that to address this crisis, audiologists should ensure that there will be an adequate number of qualified providers to identify and evaluate persons with hearing loss and provide intervention services. He emphasizes that failure to address the matter will give other health-care providers an opportunity to take over a portion of audiologists scope of practice. He stresses the need of audiologists to become proactive.
